Digital Lithuanian sign language teaching tool “Sign Language and Me”
The digital Lithuanian sign language teaching (and learning) tool “Sign Language and Me” was created as part of the National Education Agency’s project “Digital Education Transformation (EdTech)”. The aim of the project is to improve the quality of teaching and learning and to ensure that students with hearing impairments can learn in a modern, accessible, and interactive way.
BMK solution
BMK modernized the teaching process by creating a digital Lithuanian sign language learning platform for students in grades 5-8. This solution integrates interactive content, illustrations, animations, and tasks designed for learning sign language, understanding its structure, and learning about its cultural context. There are 22 topics, with tasks designed not only to develop sign language comprehension and speaking skills, but also to build grammatical structure and expand vocabulary. The tasks also help students learn about deaf culture and community, strengthening their understanding of its historical and social context.
Value for schools
The tool allows students to learn at their own pace, helps them understand the nuances of Lithuanian sign language, and apply it in everyday situations. It builds vocabulary, strengthens grammar comprehension, and increases students’ understanding of deaf culture, thus contributing to inclusive and equitable education.
