Mobile LED Display at the LIK Assembly Hall: A Custom Solution for a Multipurpose Stage

At the Lithuanian Engineering College (LIK), the BMK team implemented a unique LED display solution. A 5 × 3 metre display was installed in the college’s assembly hall on a specially designed movable structure, allowing it to be repositioned from the back of the stage to the front and stopped at any chosen location.

It was important for the college to be able to use the display conveniently during conferences, academic events, presentations, concerts, and other activities, while ensuring that it would not occupy the stage when not in use. A conventional fixed display would have limited the ways in which the space could be used, creating a need for a flexible solution capable of adapting to different assembly hall scenarios.

A display that moves with the needs of the stage

The LED display is mounted on a five-metre-long truss structure. The entire structure moves along a specially installed track system running across the full depth of the stage. When required, the display can be moved all the way to the front of the stage. After an event—or even during one—it can be moved back towards the rear wall, freeing the stage for other activities. Although the basic principle of movement may appear simple, its implementation required custom engineering solutions.

The structure had to support the weight of the large LED display reliably, ensure smooth and safe movement, and be precisely adapted to the hall’s existing architecture. The 5 × 3 metre LED display features WQHD resolution of 2560 × 1440 pixels, ensuring a bright and detailed image even when viewed from a short distance.

“What makes this project unique is not merely the size or resolution of the display. Its greatest value lies in the movable structure designed specifically for the assembly hall. Because the display is not fixed in place, its position can be adjusted as required. The hall may host a conference one day and a concert or performance the next, with the display positioned to suit each specific scenario. It is a truly versatile solution that does not restrict the use of the space,” says Rolandas Šikšnian, Head of the Audiovisual Projects Department at BMK.

This type of solution is particularly relevant to universities, colleges, and schools with multipurpose assembly halls. As LED displays become increasingly accessible, they can offer a higher-quality and more flexible alternative to conventional projectors, providing bright, high-contrast visuals while being tailored to the specific space and its intended uses.

Are you planning to upgrade a school, college, or university assembly hall? The BMK team will design and implement an audiovisual solution tailored to your space and the ways in which it will be used.
